CA Newsletter: CAO helps Animal Control
A series of reports by Channel 26 Fox News about controversies in the Harris County Animal Control Department show how the Office of the County Attorney can assist client representatives when problems arise.
Our Office has been available to provide guidance and legal advice as the Department works through these matters. With our assistance, the department revised its policies to allow nonprofits to care for injured animals without waiting the usual three-day period. Our Office provided guidance on reduced adoption fees. We reviewed the law and provided advice on what the Department needs to do to comply with state regulations regarding euthanasia procedures.
Attorneys Marva Gay and Clyde Leuchtag have taken a proactive, problem-solving approach. We want to fix what’s broken so the system will work the way it is intended, according to law, and in the interest of the public. We should always try to offer systemic solutions to help prevent problems from reoccurring. Obviously if criminal wrong-doing is discovered, we refer our findings to the proper authorities.
Thanks to Randy Wallace of Channel 26 for bringing these matters to the attention of the public and to Clyde Leuchtag and Marva Gay of the Office of the Harris County Attorney for being of service to all according to law. – Vince
