Families First

Lawyers in the County Attorney’s Office represent the state in court in cases involving child abuse and neglect.

A number of options are available in court. The goal is to ensure that children live in a stable, nurturing environment and do not remain in foster care.

The Office works with numerous groups to provide outreach and educational programs about grandparent’s rights, the mediation process, and training court-appointed attorneys and caseworkers.

Vince initiated a new priority placement system in Juvenile Courts that puts abused and neglected children into the homes of qualified family and relatives.

“When we take kids from broken homes, it is far better to put them with loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins when possible, foster homes can be a necessary alternative, but we place children with their extended families first.” – County Attorney Ryan
